When Does The Record of a Fallen Vampire Come Out?#

The 47-second teaser builds on a single confrontation. Strauss has decided to abandon his kingdom to get his queen back, and Bridget is trying to stop him.

Its tagline asks the question the whole story turns on: "Why did the Supreme King become the enemy of all?"

The teaser visual puts the same two characters face to face. Strauss stands with a red moon at his back, and Bridget faces him with a greatsword raised.

What Is The Record of a Fallen Vampire About?#

Rose Red Strauss is the "Red Rose Vampire King," and the last ruler of the Kingdom of the Night. He is said to have destroyed that kingdom a thousand years ago.

Since then he has had one goal: to free Adelheid, the queen he loves, who was sealed away by humans. For a thousand years he has gone around the world breaking seals in search of her.

That quest has made him enemies on every side. His own kind, the half-vampire dhampires, hunt him. So does the Black Swan, a being with the power to destroy him. Then a new threat appears, and the truth about what happened a thousand years ago starts to come out, piece by piece.

The official site calls it a thousand-year story of love, revenge and truth.

Cast and Characters#

• Yuma Uchida as Rose Red Strauss, a pure-blood vampire of overwhelming power and the last king of the Kingdom of the Night
• Aino Shimada as Bridget Irving Frostheart, leader of the dhampire community, who has lived for more than a thousand years and wants Strauss dead

Uchida describes Strauss as a very strong, quiet man whose every word carries the weight of what he has shouldered. Uchida adds that viewers will see Strauss differently as the story goes on.

Shimada calls Bridget a proud woman who combines strength with nobility, with eyes that sometimes give away her sorrow.

Uchida also returns as Sunraku in Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 in January.

Who Is Making the Anime?#

• Original work: Kyo Shirodaira and Yuri Kimura
• Director and series composition: Mankyu
• Character design: jimao
• Music: Evan Call
• Animation production: Zero-G and Liber

Mankyu, Zero-G and Liber have worked together before, on The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague.

Evan Call is the composer behind Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.

The Manga Behind the Anime#

Shirodaira and Kimura launched the manga in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan in December 2003. It ended in 2007 and fills nine volumes. Shirodaira is also the writer of In/Spectre, Blast of Tempest and Spiral.

The series is coming back in print too. A new manga, The Record of a Fallen Vampire: A Dog's Song for Dogs, starts in Monthly Shonen Gangan on October 9, 2026. It's the first new series in 19 years.

In English, Viz Media published all nine volumes between 2008 and 2010, and Manga UP! Global offers the manga digitally.
