The Kept Man of the Princess Knight premieres in January 2027. On October 3, 2026, the anime released its first main PV, a new key visual, three more cast members and both theme songs.
Known in Japan as Himekishi-sama no Himo, it's a dark fantasy the creators call an "isekai noir." Here's the PV, the new cast and their comments, and everything else announced.

The latest news came out of the Dengeki Bunko Autumn Festival Online 2026 livestream on October 3. The January window itself was first set in June, alongside the teaser.
Watch the First Main PV#
The PV runs just over two minutes and opens on its tagline: "I told you. I'm your kept man."
It sets up the first case. Matthew and Arwin get pulled into a counterfeit money scandal in the dungeon city of Gray Neighbor, and a suspicious coin gets its own close-up. Vanessa, Dez and April all make their first appearances.
The video is also the debut of the opening theme, "TRUE-TABOO" by MYTH & ROID.

What Is The Kept Man of the Princess Knight About?#
Gray Neighbor is a city built around a vast dungeon. Its hidden treasure draws adventurers from everywhere, and the brighter that light gets, the deeper the shadows grow.
Arwin, the Crimson Princess Knight, is the one clean thing in it. She dives into the dungeon to restore her fallen kingdom, and the whole city admires her.
Then there's Matthew, her kept man. He can't fight, never enters the dungeon, and spends Arwin's money on drink and women. The city calls him "Wisecrack" and considers him scum.
But the two of them share a secret nobody else knows. The story asks whether their twisted bond leads somewhere bright, or to a tragedy soaked in blood.
Cast and Characters#
- Junichi Suwabe as Matthew, a smooth talker so weak in a fight that the whole city looks down on him
- Mikako Komatsu as Arwin, princess of a kingdom destroyed by monsters and leader of the adventurer party Aegis
- Rie Takahashi as Vanessa, an appraiser at the Adventurers' Guild with a flawless eye for goods and a terrible one for men
- Tetsu Inada as Dez, a gruff dwarf adventurer, an old friend of Matthew's and a devoted husband and father
- Rika Nagae as April, the guild master's granddaughter, kind to everyone and fearless about scolding rowdy adventurers
What the New Cast Said#
Takahashi, Inada and Nagae were the three names added on October 3, and each shared a comment.
Rie Takahashi summed up Vanessa as a woman whose boyfriends are, without exception, scum. The harder Vanessa tries, Takahashi said, the less likely she seems to find happiness.
Tetsu Inada opened with a pun on the character's name, then gave a blunt verdict: nearly everyone in this story has problems, and Dez is one of the few decent, sane people in it.
Rika Nagae called April bright, honest, kind and a little cheeky. Nagae asked viewers to watch how April fits into such a dark, tense world.

Opening and Ending Theme Songs#
The opening theme is "TRUE-TABOO" by MYTH & ROID, heard for the first time in the PV. The ending theme is "Gika" by sajou no hana.
The Light Novels Behind the Anime#
Toru Shirogane's novel won the Grand Prize at the 28th Dengeki Novel Prize, beating 4,411 entries. Dengeki Bunko published the first volume in February 2022, with illustrations by Saki Mashima. Seven volumes are out in Japan, and the series has more than 200,000 copies in circulation.
Yen Press publishes both the light novels and the manga adaptation in English. Its sixth novel volume came out in August 2026.
