When Does How I Became King by Eating Monsters Come Out?#
The anime airs in 2027. The month, the TV network and any streaming service haven't been announced.
There's no promotional video yet either.
The Teaser Visual#

The teaser visual is set in a forest at night under a full moon. Prince Mars sits on a rock, tearing into a chunk of meat, with a greatsword planted in the ground beside him. A huge beast lies dead at his feet.
The tagline reads: "Eat, in order to live." The logo carries a second one in English: "EAT or DIE."
What Is How I Became King by Eating Monsters About?#
Mars is the prince of the kingdom of Farune, and he spends every day afraid of being assassinated. His meals at the castle are laced with poison.
To keep from starving, he slips into the forest outside the castle, hunts monsters and eats their meat.
One night, a red-haired beauty with a greatsword over her shoulder appears in front of him. Her message is short: "You. Become my apprentice."
From that one misunderstanding, the boy rises to become the strongest king around. He doesn't want any of it.
The official site bills the show as a "mad-eating hero fantasy."
Who Is Making the Anime?#
- Original work: Daken (GCN Bunko, Micro Magazine)
- Original character concepts: Shiba
- Animation production: WHITE FOX
WHITE FOX is the studio behind the Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- series. Daken is also the author of Who Killed the Hero?
The director and the rest of the staff haven't been named. The cast is listed as "coming soon" on the official site.
What the Creators Said#
Daken says the anime came as a complete surprise. This was the first serial Daken posted to the web novel site Shosetsuka ni Naro, and almost nobody read it at the time. It also failed the first round of a contest.
"Then it became a book, then a manga, and now it has made it all the way to an anime," Daken writes. "It feels like a long dream. I hope you'll watch it casually and laugh casually."
Two celebration illustrations#

Novel illustrator Shiba drew Mars being handed a slab of purple monster meat. Shiba says the story should get more fun as it spreads from novel to manga to anime.

Manga artist Karin Suzuragi also sent an illustration and a message: "I always thought it would happen someday, but I never expected it this soon!"
The Novels and Manga Behind the Anime#
Daken began the story on Shosetsuka ni Naro in January 2022. Micro Magazine's GCN Bunko label started publishing it as light novels in September 2023, with illustrations by Shiba.
The seventh novel volume goes on sale in Japan on October 20, 2026.
Karin Suzuragi's manga adaptation launched in Hakusensha's Young Animal Zero in January 2024. Its third volume follows on October 29, 2026.
In English, Cross Infinite World releases the light novels. The sixth volume came out digitally on September 30, 2026.
