The Teenage Mercenary anime airs in 2027, and J.C.STAFF is animating it. The news came on October 8, 2026 at New York Comic Con, along with an announcement video, a teaser visual and the main staff.

When Does the Teenage Mercenary Anime Come Out?#
The anime airs in 2027. The month, the TV network and any streaming service haven't been announced.
The adaptation itself was first revealed in June 2025. This is the first time it has had a studio, a staff list and a broadcast year.

The teaser visual shows the lead character in his high school uniform, looking down with a cool expression. Bullet holes mark the wall behind him, a nod to his years as a mercenary.
What Is Teenage Mercenary About?#
At eight years old, a boy becomes the only survivor of a plane crash. He loses his memory and is forced to live as a mercenary in a foreign land just to stay alive.
Ten years later, his memory returns. He leaves the mercenary life, goes home, reunites with his family and enrolls in the high school his younger sister attends.
To protect his family and friends, he takes on the crime and violence spreading through the city.
One hero, two names#
In the original webtoon and its English release, the hero is called Yu Ijin. The Japanese version and the anime's official site call him Soma Tatewaki.

The Webtoon Behind the Anime#
Teenage Mercenary launched in Korean on Naver Webtoon in November 2020. It arrived on LINE Manga in Japan in April 2021, and WEBTOON began the English release in June 2021.
The webtoon topped LINE Manga's annual ranking in 2023, and its serialized ranking in 2024. It's available in 10 languages.
Worldwide, the webtoon had passed 2.84 billion views as of September 2026.
