SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 Release Date, Trailer and Cast

SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 character trailer thumbnail from Netflix Anime, ahead of the January 2027 premiere.

Netflix posted a new SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 character trailer on August 20. The season still has no calendar day attached to it. The window is January 2027.

That is a long wait after a 22-episode first year. The new footage is short. It still names the next job. Taro Sakamoto and Shin go undercover at JCC, Japan’s assassin training school, to hunt for intel on X, also called Slur.

Key Takeaways

  • Season 2 premieres in January 2027 on Netflix. No day or episode count yet.
  • TMS Entertainment returns. Daisuke Nakajima directs. Masaki Watanabe stays on as supervising director.
  • Three new Japanese roles: Amane, Etsuko Satoda and Yotsumura.
  • The plot starts with a JCC infiltration and a Kyoto ambush on ORDER.
  • Season 1 is already on Netflix, all 22 episodes.

When Does SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 Come Out?#

January 2027. Netflix confirmed the month in June, then repeated it in the August character trailer. No premiere date inside the month has been posted.

Treat any listing that shows January 1 as a placeholder. Databases sort by the first of the month when a production only gives a window.

Netflix, TV, and What Has Not Been Said#

Season 1 had two homes. It aired on TV Tokyo from January 11, 2025, and it dropped on Netflix the same day. Part 2 followed that split in July.

Season 2 is being sold as a Netflix return. The June press line was “premieres January 2027, only on Netflix.” Japanese coverage still calls it a television anime starting that month. A TV Tokyo timeslot has not been posted the way Season 1’s was.

Episode count is also blank. Season 1 was two cours of 11 episodes each, released weekly. Netflix has not said whether Season 2 will match that shape or land as one block. You can track the listing on Animanga Planet, where it currently sits at about 19,600 members.

What the Character Trailer Shows#

The clip runs 53 seconds. Netflix Anime uploaded it on August 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Pacific. Three days later it had 39,832 views.

Netflix’s description keeps the pitch short: “Introducing three iconic characters coming to SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2.” The three faces are Amane, Etsuko Satoda, and Satoru Yotsumura.

Tudum’s write-up of the same trailer calls Satoda Sakamoto’s old teacher. Amane is a conflicted student. Yotsumura is Amane’s father. One Tudum line spells the last name Yatsumura. Japanese credits and Anime News Network use Yotsumura, which matches the kanji.

The June Teaser Came First#

This is not the first look at Season 2. Netflix put a teaser on its main channel on June 23, the same day the January 2027 window landed.

That earlier clip is also 53 seconds. It is the plot teaser. Sakamoto infiltrates JCC disguised as a student teacher who looks like his wife Aoi. Shin enrolls as a student. ORDER members Nagumo, Shishiba, and Osaragi head to Kyoto and walk into an ambush.

On the main Netflix channel, that June teaser had 515,624 views as of August 23. The new character trailer is on the Netflix Anime channel and is three days old, so the totals are not a fair fight. They are doing different jobs.

What Season 2 Is About#

The official English synopsis is already on the SAKAMOTO DAYS site and on Netflix Tudum. Sakamoto steps back onto the battlefield to protect the life he built with his family.

The JCC Infiltration#

JCC is Netflix’s label for Japan Cleaner Culture, the country’s assassin training institution. Sakamoto and Shin go in to gather information on X (Slur), who has been working in the shadows.

The June key art makes the assignment literal. Sakamoto and Shin stand back to back. Sakamoto holds a pen, the weapon he is randomly handed in the JCC entrance exam. Shin wears a new glove. Netflix flagged both props as signs of the fights ahead.

Season 1 already showed Sakamoto’s rule: he does not kill. That constraint is what makes the comedy work. It is also what makes a school full of future hitmen a bad place for him to sit still.

Kyoto, ORDER, and the Past#

The other half of the synopsis leaves the school. Nagumo, Shishiba, and Osaragi of ORDER go to Kyoto on assignment and get jumped by someone they did not expect.

Then the copy turns backward. The shared history of a young Sakamoto, Nagumo, Rion, and Slur is “finally brought to light.” That is as far as the official plot goes. If you have not read the manga, that sentence is the spoiler line to stop on.

The Three New Characters#

Netflix and the Japanese staff site introduced three roles with the June teaser. The August trailer is built around their faces.

Amane Yotsumura#

Amane is a top JCC student with a grudge against the Assassin’s Alliance. Kikunosuke Toya voices him. English-speaking viewers will know Toya as Denji in Chainsaw Man.

In a comment for the Japanese announcement, Toya called Amane straightforward and loyal to friends and family. He also said that intensity makes the character a little dangerous. He was already in the booth, laughing at the jokes and reacting to the action.

Etsuko Satoda#

Satoda is JCC’s longest-serving teacher. She trained Sakamoto. Misa Watanabe voices her. Watanabe is Nami in One Piece, which is a fun bit of Jump overlap and not a stunt-cast gimmick. The role is a veteran instructor, not a pirate.

Watanabe said she first played Satoda as cool and a little severe. She rebuilt the performance after being told the character is kind to her students. The scene that stuck with her is Satoda tearing up at how earnestly the kids try to learn combat.

Satoru Yotsumura#

Yotsumura is one of ORDER’s founding members. Shinshu Fuji voices him. Netflix’s character trailer copy names him Satoru and ties him to Amane as the boy’s father.

Fuji described the role as nihilistic on the page, then warmer once he started recording. He called Yotsumura a man with love under the stillness. That is all the production has offered. The rest belongs to the episodes.

Who Is Coming Back?#

The Japanese Season 2 announcement relisted the main shop crew and the ORDER regulars. Tomokazu Sugita returns as Taro Sakamoto. Nobunaga Shimazaki returns as Shin Asakura. Ayane Sakura returns as Lu Shaotang.

Nao Toyama and Hina Kino are back as Aoi and Hana Sakamoto. Natsuki Hanae returns as Nagumo. Taku Yashiro and Saori Hayami return as Shishiba and Osaragi. Ryota Suzuki returns as Heisuke Mashimo.

The Wider Japanese Cast#

Daisuke Namikawa is still X (Slur). Koki Uchiyama is still Gaku. Nobuhiko Okamoto and M.A.O return as Natsuki Seba and Akira Akao. The June teaser called those two out as Season 1 faces who show up again at JCC.

Mamiko Noto is listed as Rion Akao, which matters because the synopsis puts Rion in the past that Season 2 plans to open. Hochu Otsuka remains on narration and Takamura. Hiroki Yasumoto returns as Hyo.

The English Dub So Far#

Netflix revealed the English dub in January 2025, just before Season 1. Matthew Mercer voices Taro Sakamoto. Dallas Liu voices Shin Asakura. Rosalie Chiang voices Lu Shaotang. Rosie Okumura voices Aoi.

Xolo Maridueña voices Heisuke Mashimo. Aleks Le voices Nagumo. Vinnie Hacker voices X (Slur). Jacob Bertrand joined for Part 2 as Gaku. English roles for Amane, Satoda, and Yotsumura have not been posted.

Who Is Making Season 2?#

TMS Entertainment stays on animation. That is the same studio that made Season 1. The chair that changed is the director’s. The other top credits did not move.

  • Director: Daisuke Nakajima
  • Supervising director: Masaki Watanabe
  • Series composition: Taku Kishimoto
  • Character design: Yo Moriyama
  • Music: Yuki Hayashi
  • Studio: TMS Entertainment

Why Nakajima Is in the Chair#

Nakajima is not a hire from outside. Anime News Network notes that he directed episode 22 of Season 1, the finale. Japanese coverage lists him as someone who has been on the show since the first season.

Watanabe moves to supervising director, the role Japanese credits also list as chief director. Kishimoto, Moriyama, and Hayashi all return. Kishimoto’s other series scripts include Haikyu!! and BLUELOCK. Moriyama designed characters for the Lupin the Third features. Hayashi scored My Hero Academia. The scripts, designs, and score are the same hands. The person calling shot by shot is new.

In his published comment, Nakajima said he is honored to take a popular Jump title. He wants to put Suzuki’s assassins on screen with their action and their personal codes intact. He also said he is carrying the baton from Season 1 and aiming for the speed and scale fans already attached themselves to.

What Season 1 Already Covered#

You do not need a recap of every fight. You do need the shape of the first year, because Season 2 is a continuation, not a reset.

Taro Sakamoto was the best hitman in the business. He fell in love with Aoi, a convenience store clerk. He retired, married, had a daughter, and put on weight running a family shop. The old world found him anyway.

Two Parts, 22 Episodes#

Part 1 ran from January 11 to March 22, 2025, 11 episodes. Netflix Tudum’s later recap says Sakamoto’s crew beat the assassins X sent after him. Part 2 ran 11 more episodes from July 14 to September 23, 2025.

TV Tokyo listed Part 2 at 24:00 on July 14, which is after midnight, so July 15 in Japan. Netflix posted the first Part 2 episode on July 14, ahead of that midnight slot.

Opening and ending songs from Season 1 will not carry over unless the staff says so. Part 1 opened with Vaundy’s “Hashire Sakamoto” and closed with Conton Candy’s “Futsu.” Part 2 used Kroi’s “Method” and Go!Go!Vanillas’ “Dandelion.” Season 2 has no theme songs yet.

How Long the Wait Actually Is#

Season 2 was announced on December 20, 2025, at Jump Festa ’26, with a teaser and a visual. The January 2027 month came six months later. From the last episode of Season 1 to that window is roughly 16 months.

The Gap After Part 2#

The gap between the two halves of Season 1 was much shorter. Fans who got used to that pace are now sitting through a full extra year.

From Shop Clerk to Netflix’s Biggest Anime#

The wait is easier to understand if you look at what Season 1 did on the platform. This was not a quiet Jump adaptation that found a niche.

Netflix Tudum says Part 1 spent 10 straight weeks on the Global Top 10 TV list for non-English titles. In July 2025, Netflix’s half-year engagement report put Season 1 at 24.4 million views and about 106 million hours watched.

What Those View Numbers Mean#

Animation Magazine, covering that same report, called it the most viewed animated series on Netflix in the first half of 2025. It sat at number 39 on the overall TV chart. That window only covers Part 1. Part 2 had not started yet.

Netflix counts a “view” as hours watched divided by runtime. Short seasons look denser on that metric than catalogues with hundreds of episodes. The hour total still landed in nine figures for 11 episodes, which is the part that matters.

The Manga Is Further Along Than the Anime#

Yuto Suzuki launched SAKAMOTO DAYS in Weekly Shonen Jump on November 21, 2020. A one-shot titled “Sakamoto” ran in Jump Giga in December 2019. Viz Media and MANGA Plus publish the series in English.

Shueisha released volume 28 on August 4, 2026. The same day, the official manga account said the series had passed 18 million copies in circulation worldwide. Netflix Tudum still quotes 15 million, which was the figure last summer.

Climax Timing#

The manga started its “final battle” in August 2025. In July 2026, Weekly Shonen Jump said the series was heading to its climax. That does not tell us where Season 2 will stop. It does tell us the book is not waiting around for the anime.

A live-action film opened in Japan on April 29, 2026, with Ren Meguro as Sakamoto and Yuichi Fukuda writing and directing. It is a separate adaptation. It is not a recap of the TMS series and it is not required viewing for January.

The Road From Season 1 to January 2027#

The production has moved in public steps rather than leaks. The dates below are the ones with trailers or official copy attached.

Sources: Anime News Network, Netflix Tudum, and YouTube upload dates, retrieved 2026-08-23.

What to Watch Before January#

Watch Season 1 if you have not. It is 22 episodes on Netflix, filed as TV-MA. Sub and dub both went up with the Japanese broadcast last year.

If you want the book, Viz has the print volumes and MANGA Plus has the weekly chapters. The anime is about to walk into material the manga has already been living in for years. Reading ahead is a choice, not a requirement.

What Season 2 Still Has Not Told Us#

No episode titles. No opening theme. No English names for the three new roles. No runtime. No “all episodes at once” versus weekly plan. Those are the next things to watch for, not fan-made calendars.

January 2027 is the next date that matters. Our 2027 anime hub tracks the rest of that winter slate, including Kagurabachi. The anime news feed will catch the day, the episode count, and the new dub names when Netflix posts them.
