LEGO ONE PIECE: Netflix Release Date, Trailer and Voice Cast
Netflix closed its Anime NYC panel on August 20 with a full trailer for LEGO ONE PIECE, and the two-part special is now fully locked in. It lands September 29, 2026. The live-action cast is back, voicing brick versions of the characters they already play.
There is one detail that changes how you should read the whole thing. Usopp is narrating. That is a deliberate choice, and it gives the special permission to lie to you for roughly an hour.
Key Takeaways
- LEGO ONE PIECE premieres September 29, 2026 on Netflix worldwide, with both parts dropping together.
- It is a two-part animated special, not an ongoing series.
- The entire live-action Straw Hat cast returns as voice actors, including Mikaela Hoover as Chopper.
- Usopp narrates an exaggerated retelling of live-action seasons 1 and 2.
- Atomic Cartoons animates, with Tom Hyndman as showrunner and Chelsea Ker directing both parts.
When Does LEGO ONE PIECE Come Out on Netflix?#
Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Both parts arrive at once, everywhere Netflix operates. There is no weekly rollout and no regional staggering.
Netflix has the title scheduled for its usual global release moment, midnight Pacific. That is the same slot the service uses for most of its originals. It will already be sitting there when Europe and Asia wake up.
Release Times by Region#
- Pacific: 12:00 a.m. on September 29
- Eastern: 3:00 a.m. on September 29
- UK: 8:00 a.m. on September 29
- Central Europe: 9:00 a.m. on September 29
- Japan: 4:00 p.m. on September 29
Netflix has rated the special 7+ and files it under Action, Kids and Fantasy. Runtimes for the two parts are not public yet, which is normal for a title still a month out. On the Netflix listing it is structured as a show with a single season rather than as a film.
That structure leaves the door open. If the special performs, a second season of LEGO shorts would slot into the same listing without any fuss. Netflix has announced no physical release and no broadcast partner, so streaming is the only route for now.
The LEGO ONE PIECE Trailer, Broken Down#
The full trailer went up on the Netflix Anime channel on August 20, 2026, minutes after the panel ended. It runs 1 minute 49 seconds.
Netflix set the tone in the description itself. It opens in full capitals with "HOLD ONTO YOUR STRAW HATS" and promises an earth shattering adventure. That is Usopp's voice, not a marketing department losing control.
Visually it commits hard to the format. The key art alone shows dust clouds and impact effects built out of tan bricks rather than rendered as soft particles. Environments are stone ruins and jungle assembled piece by piece. The minifigures keep their printed faces instead of getting expressive cartoon ones.
How the Two Trailers Have Performed#
This is the second video Netflix has released. A 72 second teaser arrived a month earlier, on July 20. It is still the more watched of the pair.
Netflix's own page carries three promotional videos: two 55 second teasers and the trailer. The Netflix cut of the trailer runs 94 seconds, slightly shorter than the YouTube upload, which carries extra branding at the end.
The gap is mostly a head start. The teaser has had a month to accumulate, while the trailer is two days old. What is more telling is the like ratio, which sits around four percent on both videos. That is a strong number for a promo, and it suggests the concept is landing rather than dividing people.
What Is LEGO ONE PIECE About?#
It retells the first two seasons of the live-action series. Two parts, and an unreliable narrator doing the telling.
The framing device is simple. Usopp is telling Chopper what the crew got up to before Chopper joined them. That covers the whole East Blue stretch and the first steps into the Grand Line. It ends roughly where Chopper came aboard at Drum Island.
Netflix describes Usopp as the crew's most reliably unreliable narrator, which is about as clear a signal as you get. Nothing you see is meant to be taken as what actually happened.
Why Usopp Narrates the Whole Thing#
Showrunner Tom Hyndman has said the choice came from wanting a specific point of view rather than a neutral recap. Speaking to Netflix's own Tudum site, he said the goal was to ease new viewers into the world of ONE PIECE. He also wanted to give longtime fans "a new, fun perspective" on stories they already know.
The teaser made the joke explicit, billing itself as "the ALMOST true story of Captain Usopp the Brave." Expect Usopp to be taller, braver and considerably more central to every fight than he was in the source material.
Structurally this solves a real problem. A straight recap of sixteen episodes in two parts would be a slog. An exaggerated version told by a liar can skip whatever it wants and turn the skipping into a punchline.
What Story Beats Will LEGO ONE PIECE Cover?#
The two live-action seasons it draws from ran eight episodes each. Season 1 arrived on August 31, 2023. Season 2, subtitled Into the Grand Line, followed on March 10, 2026.
That is sixteen episodes of material. Two LEGO parts cannot hold all of it. Expect a highlights reel rather than a scene by scene translation.
The East Blue Half#
Season 1 covered the run of villains that built Luffy's early reputation. Alvida, Buggy the Clown, Captain Kuro, Don Krieg at the Baratie, and Arlong at his park. Mihawk appears just long enough to humble Zoro.
Those are the beats most viewers remember. Netflix's own tags on the trailer upload name Alvida, Buggy, Kuro, Arlong and Mihawk, along with the Going Merry, which is a fair map of where part one goes. Buggy suits the format especially well. A man who splits into floating pieces was already halfway to being a minifigure.
The Grand Line Half#
Season 2 pushed into Baroque Works territory. That brings Little Garden and its giants, Drum Island and its snow, and the assassins working for Sir Crocodile.
It also brings Chopper, which matters more than usual here. He is the audience for the entire story. Netflix has confirmed Charithra Chandran, Katey Sagal and Callum Kerr in the voice cast, so Vivi, Dr. Kureha and Smoker are all in play.
The Full LEGO ONE PIECE Voice Cast#
Every principal from the live-action show is back. This is not a soundalike cast. It is the main reason the special reads as an extension of the series rather than a licensing exercise.
The Straw Hat Crew#
- Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy
- Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro
- Emily Rudd as Nami
- Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp
- Taz Skylar as Sanji
- Mikaela Hoover as Tony Tony Chopper
Hoover is the interesting inclusion. She provided both the voice and the facial capture for Chopper in season 2. The LEGO special is only her second outing with him.
The Supporting Cast#
- Charithra Chandran as Nefertari Vivi and Miss Wednesday
- Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha
- Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown
- Callum Kerr as Captain Smoker
Hyndman told Tudum that having the original performers removed a whole layer of work from the recording booth, because there was no need to help anyone find their character. "They are the character," he said, adding that the freedom led to improvised material that made the final cut.
Is There a Japanese Version?#
Yes. Anime News Network noted that the Japanese cut of the July teaser used the series' Japanese cast. A Japanese-language track is confirmed to exist.
Netflix has not published a Japanese cast list for the special itself. Treat any specific names circulating online with caution until the official listing goes up. The live-action series uses the original anime voice actors for its Japanese dub, which makes them the obvious candidates. That is an expectation, not an announcement.
Who Is Making LEGO ONE PIECE?#
It is a three-way production between Netflix, The LEGO Group and Japanese publisher Shueisha. Animation is handled by Atomic Cartoons.
- Showrunner, writer and executive producer: Tom Hyndman
- Director: Chelsea Ker, on both parts
- Producers: Takuma Naito and Taro Goto
- Executive producers: Eiichiro Oda, plus Jill Wilfert, Keith Malone and Lars Danielsen for LEGO
- Also executive producing: Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements for Tomorrow Studios
Oda's involvement matters here. He has been closely attached to both the live-action series and the LEGO product line. His name on the credits is the usual signal that material has been vetted rather than licensed out.
Atomic Cartoons Has Built LEGO Specials Before#
Atomic Cartoons is a Vancouver studio founded in 1999 and owned by Thunderbird Entertainment since 2015. It is not a first-timer at this exact job.
The studio produced The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special and LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation. Those are the closest structural precedents for what Netflix is doing here. Both rebuilt a huge franchise in brick form. Both leaned on affectionate comedy instead of matching the tone of the originals.
Its other credits include Marvel's Spidey and His Amazing Friends, Hilda and The Last Kids on Earth. That is a track record built almost entirely on all-ages animation for major streamers.
The LEGO Sets That Started This#
The special did not appear out of nowhere. LEGO's ONE PIECE range launched on August 1, 2025, with seven products based on the live-action series. The animated special is the biggest promotional push that range has had.
The Baratie at 3,402 pieces is the outlier, an 18+ display build priced at 329.99 dollars with ten minifigures. The Going Merry sits at 1,376 pieces and 139.99 dollars, and it ships with minifigures of all five season 1 Straw Hats.
The Season 2 Wave Arrived in August 2026#
Six more sets reached shelves on August 1, 2026, timed to the second season and, as it turns out, to the special. The lineup covers Drum Island and Little Garden.
- Tony Tony Chopper: a 577 piece posable figure, 7.5 inches tall
- Dr. Hiriluk's Hideout: 271 pieces, with Chopper's first ever minifigure
- Dorry vs. Brogy: 733 pieces, with two jointed brick giants
- Battle at Drum Castle: a multi-story castle with Wapol included
- Garp's Marine Battleship: more than 1,705 pieces and eight minifigures
- Showdown with Captain Smoker: Smoker on a brick-built motorbike
LEGO design lead Yi-Chien Cheng described building Chopper as a career highlight, noting that the work was done closely with Oda. Netflix confirmed the special in the same article that revealed the sets. The two were clearly planned together.
Where This Fits in Netflix's Bigger One Piece Plans#
On April 7, 2026, Netflix announced three ONE PIECE projects at once. The LEGO special was one of them.
The second was ONE PIECE: The Battle of Alabasta, the third season of the live-action series. It is due in 2027, with Joe Tracz and Ian Stokes as showrunners. The crew heads into the desert kingdom to face Sir Crocodile and Baroque Works. Production has already wrapped in Cape Town.
The third was THE ONE PIECE, a separate anime series from WIT Studio. It retells the East Blue saga straight from the manga using new visual technology. We covered that one in detail in our THE ONE PIECE remake breakdown.
Netflix marketing chief Marian Lee called the passion of the ONE PIECE fandom unparalleled in that announcement. She noted the live-action series keeps topping the platform's charts. Three simultaneous projects is what that confidence looks like in practice.
Is LEGO ONE PIECE Worth It for Longtime Fans?#
The 7+ rating will put some people off, and that is fair enough. This is not going to give you Arlong Park with its emotional weight intact.
What it offers instead is a comedy retelling from a studio that has done this twice before with Star Wars. The actors already know these characters, and they were clearly enjoying themselves. Hyndman described the recording sessions as full of giddy giggling. Improvised takes made it into the finished episodes.
There is also a practical use for it. Plenty of people bounce off the manga's length and the anime's episode count. For them, two parts of brick-built East Blue is a low-effort entry point. That was the stated design goal, not a side effect.
What It Is Not#
Worth being clear about the limits. This is not new canon. It does not advance the live-action timeline, and nothing in it will change what happens in The Battle of Alabasta.
It is also not an adaptation of the manga. The source material is the live-action show, filtered through a character who is openly making things up. Anyone hoping for a brick-built version of the anime's actual episodes is looking at the wrong project.
Set expectations accordingly and it looks like a good time. For more upcoming titles, our 2026 anime hub tracks everything else on the way.
Both parts land on Netflix on September 29. Keep an eye on our anime news feed for the runtime reveal and any late cast additions.
Frequently asked questions
- When does LEGO ONE PIECE come out?
- Tuesday, September 29, 2026, on Netflix worldwide. Netflix has it scheduled for 12:00 a.m. Pacific, which is 3:00 a.m. Eastern and 4:00 p.m. in Japan. Both parts arrive together.
- How many episodes is LEGO ONE PIECE?
- Two. Netflix has called it a two-part animated special since April 2026, and lists it as one season holding both parts. Individual runtimes have not been published.
- Who voices the characters in LEGO ONE PIECE?
