Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Release Date, Teaser and Full Cast

Night City in the third official teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, ahead of the October 20, 2026 Netflix premiere.

Netflix used its Anime NYC panel on August 20 to put a date on the board. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres October 20, 2026. The third teaser went live the same evening and has already passed 1.1 million views.

The framing matters as much as the date. This is not a continuation of David Martinez's story. It is a separate ten-episode run with four new leads, a new director, a new composer and a completely different soundtrack.

Key Takeaways

  • Edgerunners 2 premieres October 20, 2026 on Netflix, all 10 episodes together.
  • It is a standalone story, not a second season. Netflix lists it as a separate title.
  • Four new leads: Weak Kingsley, D, Roman Carax and Talia Yang.
  • Kai Ikarashi directs at Trigger, in his first job as a series director.
  • The opening is "10:15 Saturday Night" by The Cure, with Tsuneo Imahori replacing Akira Yamaoka on score.

When Does Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Come Out?#

Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Netflix has the title scheduled for midnight Pacific, its standard global drop, so all ten episodes land at once.

That puts it in the middle of the autumn season rather than at the front of it. Season 1 arrived in mid September 2022, so the sequel is landing roughly five weeks later in the calendar.

Release Times by Region#

  • Pacific: 12:00 a.m. on October 20
  • Eastern: 3:00 a.m. on October 20
  • UK: 8:00 a.m. on October 20
  • Central Europe: 9:00 a.m. on October 20
  • Japan: 4:00 p.m. on October 20

Netflix files the show under Action, Anime and Sci-Fi. No maturity rating has been posted yet. Season 1 was firmly adult television, and nothing in the sequel's marketing suggests a softer approach. You can follow the listing on Animanga Planet, where it currently sits at more than 54,000 members.

What the Third Teaser Shows#

The teaser runs 88 seconds and went up on the Netflix Anime channel on August 20, 2026, straight out of the panel at the Javits Center.

Netflix's own description does the elevator pitch in one line: "A washed up edgerunner and a killer netrunner in Night City... what could go wrong?" Anime News Network reported the staff describing it as "a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge."

Redemption and revenge is the tell. Season 1 was a tragedy about ambition. This one is being sold on the back half of a life, not the start of one.

It is also worth noting what this teaser is not. Netflix has still not released a full trailer, so nobody outside the production has seen an extended look at the animation. What exists is three short teasers across thirteen months.

How the Three Teasers Compare#

This is the third teaser, and it is comfortably the strongest performer. On the Netflix Anime channel it has already passed the total the first teaser gathered over thirteen months.

Likes tell the same story. Teaser 3 sits at 71,666, ahead of teaser 1 at 44,267 and teaser 2 at 30,410. A six percent like ratio on a teaser is unusually high, and it says the goodwill from 2022 has not faded.

Is This a Sequel or a Season 2?#

Technically neither, and the distinction is not marketing fluff. Netflix has given Edgerunners 2 its own title page rather than adding a season to the 2022 series.

Every official description uses the word standalone. CD Projekt Red confirmed in July 2025 that the project would be self-contained rather than a continuation. Nothing since has walked that back.

So you can start here. Watching the original still helps, because the rules of Night City and the way chrome eats people are established there. But no plot thread is left dangling for you to pick up.

Why the Title Drops the Word Season#

CD Projekt Red signalled as far back as October 2022 that any follow up would be "something completely different." Reusing the Edgerunners name while numbering it like a sequel splits the difference. It keeps the brand and still promises a clean slate.

It also protects the original's ending. Season 1 finished its story properly, and dragging survivors back into a second run would have cheapened it.

Who Are the New Edgerunners?#

Four leads, described on the official site. Their arcs are built to collide.

Weak Kingsley#

Once known as "King," a veteran edgerunner who sat at the top of the game and now lives in the shadow of it. The detail that matters is that he has been forced to live without chrome.

That is a sharp inversion of season 1. David Martinez destroyed himself by adding more cyberware than a body could hold. Weak is the other failure state, a man who cannot use any.

D#

A Snake Nation netrunner with, in the official wording, "sharp technical skills and a sharper hunger for revenge." He is hunting the killer who wiped out his clan.

Netflix's own summary calls him a killer netrunner, and that pairing is the show's engine. Weak cannot use chrome. D lives inside the net. Between them they cover the two halves of what an edgerunner normally is.

Roman Carax#

A young cinephile chasing real stories in a city that abandoned film for braindance. He is the closest thing the cast has to an audience surrogate, and the one whose lens the story keeps returning to.

Braindance is the recorded-experience tech that lets people replay someone else's memories, senses included. A character who prefers film in that world is deliberately out of step. It is a neat way to put a documentarian's eye in Night City without forcing it.

Talia Yang#

Raised in corpo towers, then hardened in Maelstrom's grip. She is described as fiercely independent and steeped in the gang's hyper-violent, chrome-obsessed culture, which puts her in direct thematic opposition to Weak.

Maelstrom is one of the setting's nastiest gangs, defined by replacing as much of the body as possible. A character who came from corporate wealth and ended up there has crossed the entire social range of the city.

What Night City Is, If You Are New#

Both series sit in the same place, so a short primer helps. Night City is a self-governing metropolis wedged between the free states of northern and southern California.

It runs on three things: obsessive cybernetic body modification, constant gang violence, and open warfare between corporations. A corrupt city government keeps all of it moving. The place is split into six districts, with the megacorporations Arasaka and Militech pulling the hardest.

What an Edgerunner Actually Is#

An edgerunner is a mercenary who takes the jobs nobody legitimate will touch. Data theft, extraction, assassination. The pay is good and the survival rate is not.

The other term worth knowing is cyberpsychosis, the breakdown that comes from installing more cyberware than a mind can carry. Season 1 built its entire tragedy on it. Weak Kingsley's inability to use chrome reads as a direct response.

The Full Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Voice Cast#

  • Weak Kingsley: Kentaro Tone in Japanese, Clancy Brown in English
  • D: Koki Uchiyama in Japanese, Nazeeh Tarsha in English
  • Roman Carax: Momoka Terasawa in Japanese, Valeria Rodriguez in English
  • Talia Yang: Akari Kito in Japanese, Kimoy Lee in English

Clancy Brown is the headline. He has four decades of genre work behind him. His voice lands exactly where a washed-up legend needs it to. Koki Uchiyama brings the other big name on the Japanese side.

The English Dub Team#

Wendee Lee directs the English dub, with Jared Dye adapting the script. Bartosz Sztybor is credited as English showrunner too. That is unusual, and it suggests the dub was built alongside the Japanese track rather than after it.

Season 1 was widely watched in English. A Polish-written, Japanese-animated show about an American city has no single native language. Expect the same care here.

Who Is Making Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2?#

Trigger and CD Projekt Red again, with much of the original creative team back in different chairs.

  • Director: Kai Ikarashi
  • Showrunner, story and producer: Bartosz Sztybor
  • Scriptwriter: Masahiko Otsuka, returning from season 1
  • Lead character designer: Ichigo Kanno
  • Composer: Tsuneo Imahori
  • Studios: Trigger with CD Projekt Red

Kai Ikarashi Steps Up#

This is Ikarashi's first time leading a series. He is not a stranger to the material, though. He worked on the original Edgerunners and on SSSS.Gridman.

Sztybor has said he recruited Ikarashi because of episode 6 of season 1, "Girl on Fire." That is the episode most people cite when they talk about the show's animation peaks.

Sztybor also described pitching the sequel to Trigger as something closer to 1990s cinema, naming Pulp Fiction and Leon: The Professional. Ikarashi added that the character designs draw on 1990s comics. That is a very different reference set from season 1's anime-forward look.

The Music Has Changed Completely#

Season 1's soundtrack was a large part of why it broke out. The sequel has rebuilt it from scratch.

The Cure and Petite Meller#

The opening theme is "10:15 Saturday Night" by The Cure, a track first released in 1978. The ending is "Watson" by Petite Meller. Both were revealed at the Anime Expo 2026 panel in early July.

Season 1 opened with "This Fffire" by Franz Ferdinand and closed with "Let You Down" by Dawid Podsiadlo. Reaching back to a 1970s post-punk single is a bolder swing than either of those.

Picking a 48 year old post-punk single as an anime opening is not the obvious move. It fits the sequel's stated 1990s film influences better than a modern rock track would, and it signals that this is not chasing the sound of season 1.

The Score and the Rico Nasty Track#

Tsuneo Imahori composes the original score, taking over from Akira Yamaoka. That is a real shift in texture, from the Silent Hill composer's industrial dread to the man behind Trigun's guitar work.

There is also an original song. Rico Nasty performs "You Can't Run From Me," written by Maria Kelly and Drew Polovick, produced by Polovick, and mixed and mastered by Elliot Polokoff. It ran under the second teaser.

The stakes here are real. Season 1 took "I Really Want to Stay at Your House" by Rosa Walton, a track written for the 2020 game, and turned it into a genuine chart entry. Music is not decoration on this franchise.

How We Got From 2022 to Here#

Four years passed between the original and this premiere. The trail of announcements is short but consistent.

Sources: CD Projekt Red announcements, Anime News Network and YouTube upload dates, retrieved 2026-08-23.

The theme songs were revealed at Anime Expo in early July 2026, between the second and third teasers. The date itself was held back for Anime NYC.

What Season 1 Set Up, and What Changes#

The 2022 series was a phenomenon. It won Anime of the Year at the seventh Crunchyroll Anime Awards. It took Best Anime Series at the 2022 IGN Awards. It landed in Netflix's top ten in its first week.

Its knock-on effect was larger still. Cyberpunk 2077 had launched badly in 2020. The anime is widely credited with driving the sales and player rebound that followed.

It also cleaned up at genre awards. The ninth Anime Trending Awards gave it Sci-Fi or Mecha Anime of the Year, plus Best in Original Screenplay for Masahiko Otsuka and Yoshiki Usa. Otsuka is one of the few names carrying straight over to the sequel.

The Creative Handover#

Almost every top credit has moved. Hiroyuki Imaishi directed season 1 and is not directing this one. Akira Yamaoka scored it and has been replaced. The theme song artists are entirely different.

What carries over is the spine. Trigger animates, CD Projekt Red produces, Bartosz Sztybor writes and Masahiko Otsuka scripts. The house style should survive even with new hands on the wheel.

You can revisit the original on Netflix before October, or check the official Edgerunners 2 site for character art as it goes up.

What to Watch Before October 20#

Nothing is required. If you want the fuller picture anyway, there are two obvious routes and neither is long.

The original series is ten episodes at roughly 23 to 28 minutes each, so about four hours end to end. It is still on Netflix, and it gives you the vocabulary the sequel will use without explaining.

The other route is the game. Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion are where Night City was built. The anime's locations and factions come straight out of it. That is a much larger commitment, and it is entirely optional.

The One Thing Worth Knowing#

If you skip both, hold on to a single idea. In this setting, power is bought with pieces of yourself, and the bill always comes due. Every story in Night City is some version of that trade.

Night City reopens on October 20. Our 2026 anime hub tracks the rest of the autumn slate. The anime news feed will carry the rating and episode titles when Netflix posts them.
