Arcanadea Anime: January 2027 Release, Teaser and Full Cast
Kotobukiya's Arcanadea line has been selling model kits since 2021 without a single episode of animation to its name. That changes in January 2027.
The first teaser PV went up on August 28, 2026, and it came with the broadcast slot, the studio, the full staff and seven cast members. Here is everything that is now official, and one number that a lot of outlets are still getting wrong.
Key Takeaways
- Arcanadea premieres January 2027 on TV Asahi's NUMAnimation block and BS Asahi.
- It adapts a Kotobukiya model kit line, not a manga or light novel.
- Yokohama Animation Lab animates, with Keiichiro Kawaguchi directing.
- Seven cast members are confirmed, led by Nobunaga Shimazaki and Kaede Hondo.
- The kit line has shipped more than 700,000 units as of June 2026.
When Does the Arcanadea Anime Come Out?#
January 2027. No exact date has been given yet, and no episode count either. What has been confirmed is where it airs, which tells you more than you might expect.
It runs on TV Asahi's 24-station national network in the NUMAnimation slot, and simultaneously on the satellite channel BS Asahi. That is a proper national rollout rather than a single-station Tokyo broadcast.
What NUMAnimation Tells You About the Format#
NUMAnimation is TV Asahi's late-night anime block. It occupies a 30 minute window in the early hours of Sunday, Japan time, and it has been running as a networked slot since October 2020.
Two things follow from that. Arcanadea will be a standard half-hour late-night series, so expect somewhere near a full cour. And it is aimed at the adult anime audience rather than the toy-aisle demographic, despite the source being a model kit line.
No streaming partner has been announced for outside Japan. Given the January window, that news usually lands in November or December. You can watch the listing on Animanga Planet for updates.
What the Teaser PV Shows#
The teaser runs 52 seconds and went live on the official Arcanadea channel on August 28, 2026. It had passed 137,000 views within a day.
The Look Is Softer Than the Premise#
The key frame is Lumitea standing on a rocky shoreline at golden hour, feathered wings out, a city skyline hazy in the distance behind her. It is warm and painterly.
That is a deliberate choice worth noting. The setup involves an energy crisis, an industrial explosion and a world-altering catastrophe. The teaser sells none of that. It sells the character.
For a kit line whose entire appeal is sculpt and design, leading with a soft character moment rather than an action montage makes sense. Buyers of these kits are not there for the plot.
What Is Arcanadea, Exactly?#
A plastic model kit line from Kotobukiya, launched in December 2021. There is no manga and no light novel underneath it. The anime is the first proper narrative the franchise has had.
Kotobukiya built the line on a sci-fi and fantasy theme, with illustrator necömi as lead character designer. In-universe the characters are called Dears, and each kit is a heavily articulated, heavily customisable build.
Why This Line Stands Apart From Kotobukiya's Others#
Kotobukiya's better-known kit ranges lean on mecha musume, the practice of designing girls around military hardware. Arcanadea went the other way entirely.
Its roster is built from demi-humans and monster girls. Lumitea is an angel type. Velretta is a devil type with a parasol that converts into a lance. Yukumo is a fox. That is a different shelf appeal, and it worked.
The kits themselves are the selling point. Each one is heavily articulated and built for customisation, with swappable faces, hands and effect parts. The roster has grown well past the anime's seven, taking in Soffiera, Elena, Meltina, Ornella and Aruaril, and several characters have had revised or upgraded releases.
That growth is why the anime exists. A line that keeps adding characters eventually needs somewhere to put them.
The Arcanadea Story#
The setting is the near future. A next-generation energy source called Arcana Particles was discovered by a company named Eden Industries, and the world developed at speed on the back of it.
Then Eden Industries exploded. The fallout was not just industrial. Weather turned abnormal, communications broke down, people went missing, and some began developing heightened physical abilities.
The teaser description names three pillars: the Arcana Particles that shifted the world's balance, an event called Kaise no Yoru that changed it, and Arcana Stones that keep causing anomalies.
The Palm-Sized Partner Hook#
Against that backdrop the actual plot is small and domestic. Shogo Kuga is a third-year university student drifting through life. He used to be a strong VRMMO player. Now he is not much of anything.
Then a palm-sized girl falls out of the sky in front of him. Her name is Lumitea, she has lost her memories, and she immediately calls him Master. The official framing calls it a story of bonds with a hand-sized partner.
There is a neat loop in the premise. Arcanadea is also the name of a VRMMO running inside a virtual server called Eden, and the Dears are its inhabitants. A burnt-out gamer meeting one in the real world is the whole pitch.
The Arcanadea Characters#
Seven have been introduced. They split neatly into two groups, which is a useful way to keep them straight.
The relationship between the two groups is the format. A Dears is partnered with a human called a Master, and the pairing is what the word bond in the official tagline refers to. Lumitea calls Shogo her Master within moments of landing in front of him, before either of them has agreed to anything.
The Dears#
- Lumitea: an angel-type Dears who fell from the sky with no memories. In the kit line, her one surviving memory is a mission to recover Arcanadea crystals.
- Velretta: a demon-type Dears and one of the Seven Demon Spears. Confident, and a leader.
- Yukumo: a beast-folk Dears, described as kind and gentle.
- Ghi: another beast-folk Dears, free-spirited, with high combat ability.
The Masters#
- Shogo Kuga: the protagonist. A third-year university student and lapsed VRMMO player.
- Kaho Asagi: a first-year university student and a Dears Master. The responsible one.
- Rin Kirinoue: Ghi's Master, and a working idol.
The Master and Dears pairing is the structure the show is built on. Two of the three human characters are already partnered, which suggests the format is closer to an ensemble than a single duo story.
The Full Arcanadea Voice Cast#
- Nobunaga Shimazaki as Shogo Kuga
- Kaede Hondo as Lumitea
- Konomi Inagaki as Kaho Asagi
- Miho Okasaki as Velretta
- Rina Hidaka as Yukumo
- Mai Kanno as Rin Kirinoue
- Moka Kanzaki as Ghi
Shimazaki and Hondo are the anchors, and both are heavily established. Rina Hidaka and Miho Okasaki fill out a cast that is deeper than most kit-line adaptations get.
A Note on the Other Kit Characters#
The model line includes more Dears than this. Soffiera, Elena, Meltina, Ornella and Aruaril all have kits, and some have voices attached from promotional material.
None of them have been announced as anime cast. Some listings mix the two sets together, so treat any longer cast list with suspicion until the official site adds those names.
Who Is Making the Arcanadea Anime?#
- Original work: Kotobukiya
- Director: Keiichiro Kawaguchi
- Series composition and scripts: Atsuhiro Tomioka
- Main character original design: necömi
- Animation character design: Kumoha Arakawa
- Music: Yuki Hayashi and Yuki Furuhashi
- Animation production: Yokohama Animation Lab
Kawaguchi and Tomioka are both long-serving veterans with deep television credit lists. That is a sensible pairing for a first adaptation of a property with no existing script to lean on.
The Director Has Form Here#
Kawaguchi has been directing television since 2006. His list runs from Hayate the Combat Butler and Sket Dance through Please Tell Me! Galko-chan to both halves of Higurashi: When They Cry, Gou and Sotsu.
He has a reputation as a fast worker who storyboards a lot of his own episodes and often runs two or three shows at once. Wikipedia also notes something that reads as almost too neat for this job. He collects figures, and his desk is reportedly buried in them.
Tomioka's background is different and just as relevant. He was head writer on Pokemon from Diamond and Pearl through XY, and has handled series composition on Inazuma Eleven, Captain Tsubasa and Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest.
That is a career built on long-running ensemble shows with large character rosters and merchandise attached. Arcanadea is exactly that shape.
Yokohama Animation Lab#
The studio was founded in July 2015 by Yuma Oue, previously a producer in Production I.G's Division 7. It is based in Naka-ku, Yokohama, and had roughly 48 staff as of May 2025. Frontier Works acquired it in September 2025.
Its recent output includes The Great Cleric, The Witch and the Beast, Whisper Me a Love Song and Sword of the Demon Hunter. That is a mid-size studio with a steady television record rather than a spectacle house.
The Design Handoff#
The credit worth watching is Kumoha Arakawa's. necömi designed these characters as sculpts, meaning designs built to be moulded in plastic and posed on a shelf.
Translating that into something a TV production can draw twenty-four times a second is a real problem. Kit designs carry detail that animation budgets punish. How much of necömi's ornamentation survives is the single biggest visual question hanging over the show.
Kotobukiya Has Adapted a Kit Line Before#
This is not the company's first attempt at turning plastic into television. Frame Arms Girl got a twelve episode anime in 2017, running on Tokyo MX from April to June that year at studio Zexcs.
Its director was Keiichiro Kawaguchi. The same person now directing Arcanadea.
Why That Matters#
Kotobukiya did not go shopping for a name. It went back to the one director who has already solved this specific problem, which is how to build a watchable show around characters designed to be sold as kits.
Frame Arms Girl handled it by leaning into comedy and a slice-of-life structure, with the mecha-musume battles as set pieces rather than the spine. It is remembered fondly by people who never bought a single kit.
Arcanadea looks like it is taking a different route. The premise carries an actual catastrophe, a memory-loss mystery and a protagonist with something to work through. That is a heavier frame than Frame Arms Girl used.
Whether that is an improvement is the open question. A comedy can absorb a large cast of product characters far more easily than a drama can.
How Long This Has Been Coming#
The anime was announced in December 2024. By the January 2027 premiere it will have been more than two years in public development, and five years since the kits went on sale.
Two years between announcement and broadcast is normal for an original production. It also means the staff had time to build a story from scratch rather than compress an existing one.
Should You Care If You Do Not Build Model Kits?#
Adaptations of toy lines have a mixed record, and it is fair to be cautious. The honest read is that this one has more going for it than the category usually does.
The premise is not a toy commercial. An apathetic student, a partner with no memory, and a world still living with the consequences of an industrial accident is a normal anime setup that happens to have kits attached.
The NUMAnimation slot backs that up. Blocks aimed at selling toys to children do not run at half past one on a Sunday morning.
The staffing points the same way. A director with a Frame Arms Girl adaptation already behind him, a writer who has run some of the longest-running ensemble shows in the medium, and a studio with a steady television record is a considered set of choices rather than a cheap one.
None of that guarantees anything. It does suggest Kotobukiya treated this as a show first and a catalogue second.
What Could Go Wrong#
Two risks stand out. Ensemble casts assembled from a product roster tend to feel like a checklist, and seven named characters in a single cour is already a lot to service.
The other is visual. necömi's designs are the reason this franchise sells. If the animation cannot hold them, the show loses its main advantage before the story even starts.
